Throughout Thursday and Friday, Western United States was drenched by a confluence of two atmospheric rivers, dumping several inches of rain in some areas.
Satellite footage captured a time-lapse of the storms, revealing a mighty atmospheric river, dubbed a ” pineapple express,” that brought significant rainfall to the Southwest. A smaller, milder atmospheric river can be seen in the time-lapse video, channeling precipitation into Northern California and Southern Oregon and dumping less than half an inch of rain on the Portland region.
On Thursday and Friday, Portland experienced less rain than other parts of the West. Still, KOIN 6 Meteorologist Kelley Bayern says a much heavier atmospheric river is expected to arrive on Sunday. Due to the next atmospheric river, up to two inches of rain might fall in the Portland area by Tuesday.

Bayern predicted that “heavy rain” would return on Sunday night, with an atmospheric river fueling Monday’s storm. There’s a chance of flooding on Monday, and it will be a rainy day in the city. We’re going to keep a careful eye on the forecast.
