5th Congressional District: On Saturday evening, Representative Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05) was administered her oath of office to begin her first term representing Oregon’s 5th Congressional District.
It is the very first time that Linn County, the majority of Clackamas and Deschutes counties, and portions of Multnomah and Marion counties have been included in the newly constituted district.

“I would want to express my gratitude to the people of Oregon’s 5th Congressional District for entrusting me with the responsibility of representing you in the halls of Congress. Chavez-DeRemer promised, “I will work relentlessly to guarantee that you have a seat at the policymaking tables in D.C.,” particularly when choices are being made that would have an effect on the families, schools, businesses, and livelihoods of her constituents.

After the most contentious campaign in 164 years, Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, a Republican, was sworn in as the new Speaker of the House, and now it is her turn to take the oath of office.
After fifteen rounds of voting, he was declared the winner.

“I’m delighted my colleagues were able to reach a compromise, and I’m excited to begin delivering on the promises we made to the American people,” Chavez-DeRemer said. “Although it took longer than planned, I’m glad my colleagues were able to reach a consensus.”
“I am looking forward to working with my colleagues, on both sides of the aisle, to find common ground so that we can develop a booming economy, improve public safety, help our rural areas, increase educational opportunities, and plenty of other things.

I have faith that we can find a way out of this impasse and avoid the practice of casting potential solutions overboard in the name of partisan politics. I am willing to collaborate with anyone who is interested in producing results that are to the advantage of residents of Oregon and the rest of the United States.
Chavez-DeRemer has served as the Mayor of Happy Valley, and she and her husband of 31 years, as well as their twin daughters, continue to make their home there.
