Marcus G. Curry was born in Oakland, California on June 1, 1961, and raised in Alameda and Hayward. Curry attended the East Oakland Youth Development Center as a young person (EOYDC).
Curry went to California State University, East Bay, where he studied in criminal justice and played varsity basketball after graduating from St. Joseph Notre Dame High School in Alameda. While attending East Bay, Curry was twice selected to the First Team All-American and assisted in guiding his team to victory.
