Volunteers collaborate closely with the Veteran Volunteer Coordinator as well as the accredited local veteran service officer or tribal veteran service officer in their respective communities to locate veterans who may require assistance in accessing their benefits in locations such as long-term care facilities, senior centers, libraries, mobile home parks, retirement communities, and other areas where large groups of people congregate.

The agency requests that volunteers commit to serving anywhere from eight to ten hours each month and adds that anybody who is at least 18 years old can participate in the program.

Before volunteers are permitted to work with veterans, they must first pass a background check that will not be conducted at the volunteer’s expense.
