The Recently Legalised Magic Mushroom Industry in Oregon Risks Being Stifled
Back in the year 2020, voters in the state of Oregon approved the very first ballot initiative of its kind, which authorised adults over the age of 21 to consume psilocybin, the psychoactive component found in magic mushrooms, in designated “psilocybin service centres” in the presence of a licenced “facilitator.”
The Oregon Health Authority is going to begin taking applications for licences from such clinics starting in the month of January.

In an effort to gain a competitive advantage, firms have been purchasing rural sites that have the potential to become good mushroom retreat places. Existing firms in the rural hospitality industry have shown interest in expanding their offerings to include psilocybin retreats, and these businesses have also shown interest in expanding their operations.
The municipal bureaucracy is proving to be an obstacle for many of these would-be business owners and operators.

The initiative that authorised enterprises involving magic mushrooms also permits towns and counties to ban them via ballot initiative if they so choose. Psilocybin enterprises are nevertheless subject to the “time, place, and manner” rules imposed by local governments, which continue to have this authority.
