Assaulting Oregon Democrats: After entering a guilty plea to the allegations against him, an Oregon man who was charged with rioting and criminal mischief will pay a fine of about $50,000.
Man Forced To Pay Nearly $50,000 For Allegedly Assaulting Oregon Democrats’ Headquarters
The announcement was made public by the Office of the District Attorney for Multnomah County on Wednesday afternoon. In an incident that occurred in January 2020, 33-year-old Darrell Anthony Kimberlin was caught vandalizing the headquarters of the Democratic Party of Oregon by breaking windows and tagging the building with spray paint, according to the District Attorney’s Office. Kimberlin was charged as a result of this incident.
A second incident involving Kimberlin occurred in February 2021, when it was reported that she was found vandalizing a Chipotle, an Umpqua Bank, and property owned by Arcadia Security.
Elisabeth Shepard, a spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office, stated that Kimberlin’s extreme political ideas inspired him to conduct crimes. “As a result of those acts, he now owes money to the very institutions that he uses his philosophy to criticize.
There is a clear demarcation between the right to free speech and the intent to commit a crime. Kimberlin’s acts fell on the unacceptable side of that boundary, and as a result, he will now be held accountable for them.
