According to Haugland, “the pandemic brought to light the important role that nurses play in ensuring that people have access to healthcare.” The work that nurses do is demanding, but it is absolutely necessary for maintaining our health. I have no doubt in my mind that the Institute for Nursing Excellence will bring these professionals and the care that they provide to a higher level.

It is important that our communities recognize nursing as a profession that is not only difficult but also worthy of respect and celebration. It is my most sincere hope that others will join me in establishing the INE by making a donation to support the thousands of PeaceHealth nurses who are caring for our neighbors and loved ones.

The PeaceHealth Oregon Institute for Nursing Excellence (INE) will support nurses in the day-to-day practice of caring for patients, and in the long-range development of their careers.

According to the press release, the institute will soon support clinical disciplines such as nursing and other clinical specialties in the state of Oregon by providing dedicated resources in the following areas:

  • Improvement of existing caregivers’ careers and recruitment of new ones
  • Creating new training programs in order to expand the available pool of new carers
  • Governance by professionals using consensus-based decision making
  • The exercise of one’s profession
  • Innovation in nursing, nursing practices that are founded on evidence, and nursing research
  • Structures and procedures for providing excellent nursing care

PeaceHealth says,

The INE will support nurse autonomy and practice ownership through collaborative decision-making while creating partnerships with educational institutions to support programs for new caregivers. The program will assist employed nurses with designing their career path and harness their creativity, energy and talent to make improvements in nursing practice and patient care as a whole.
