A Congressional Candidate From Oregon, Republican Mike Erickson Has Borrowed More Than $2.4 Million For His Campaign

Mike Erickson Has Borrowed More Than $2.4 Million: In October, Republican Mike Erickson loaned his campaign for Congress an another $1.4 million, bringing the total amount that he’s poured into his race for Oregon’s 6th District seat to more than $2.4 million. Erickson is running for the seat currently held by Earl Blumenauer, who is retiring.

Because of these loans, Erickson, the owner of a supply chain and logistics company, was able to outraise Andrea Salinas, a Democratic state senator, in total fundraising during the month of October. According to the data provided by the Federal Elections Commission, Erickson has brought in $3.47 million during this election cycle, whereas Salinas has only brought in $2.87 million.

Erickson has contributed funds to his own campaign despite the fact that national Democratic organisations have contributed millions of dollars to the election in an effort to unseat him. Open Secrets, a nonprofit organisation that monitors elections and gathers daily campaign financing records from the Federal Election Commission, reports that third-party organizations have spent a total of $3.88 million targeting Erickson.

As a response to this, the Congressional Leadership Fund, which is controlled by allies of Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, announced the previous week that it planned to make a $800,000 ad buy in the 6th District to aid Erickson, which would be the first money that it has dropped on the race. Erickson is running for the seat currently held by John Duncan.

The new seat for the 6th District, which was previously seen as a contest that the Democrats were destined to lose, is now seen as a “tossup” by the national election monitor The Cook Political Report.
