$69 Million More In Snap Benefits For 430000 Households In Oregon

In the month of November, the majority of people living in Lincoln County and the rest of the state who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive emergency allotments.

A total of roughly 430,000 SNAP households will receive an additional food benefit in the amount of approximately $69 million in addition to their normal SNAP payments in the month of November.

Since March 2020, the federal government has given its approval to emergency allotments on a monthly basis. This provides participants of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) with additional support during the COVID-19 epidemic. Because of the public health emergency caused by the federal COVID-19 outbreak, the state of Oregon is able to give these emergency benefits as a temporary support system.

As a result of the approval of these emergency benefits by the federal government for the month of November, Oregon will also be permitted to provide them throughout the month of December. On the other hand, it is anticipated that the emergency benefits will terminate once the federal public health emergency is over.

Jana McLellan, the interim director of Self-Sufficiency Programs for the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS), stated that “We know that many rely on these additional emergency food benefits to secure enough healthy food for themselves and their family.” “We are also aware that many people in the state of Oregon are still having trouble meeting their basic requirements, and we encourage those people to reach out to our colleagues at 211, the Oregon Food Bank, and their local Community Action Agency for assistance at this challenging time.”

On November 11, existing SNAP households will be given their emergency food allotments. Emergency allotments will be distributed to households that did not get benefits in the initial monthly distribution on either November 30 or December 2 of this year.

Beneficiaries of the Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) do not need to take any action in order to receive these supplemental benefits because they will be loaded straight into their EBT cards.
