Roads In Oregon Are Among The Most Dangerous In The Country

According to a recent report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the number of people killed in car accidents in the United States is on the rise. It is anticipated that 20,175 persons lost their lives in motor vehicle accidents during the first half of the year 2022, making this period the worst first half of any year since 2006.

The most recent rise in traffic fatalities coincides with an increase in the amount of time that Americans spend on the road. In the first half of this year, motorists in the United States racked up an additional 43.2 billion miles in comparison to the same time period in the previous year.

The disturbing long-term pattern of a rise in the number of people killed in traffic accidents has recently continued. Between the middle of 2020 and the beginning of 2022, there was a steady increase in the number of people killed on roadways in the United States. According to the findings of a recent study that was carried out by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, the trend is in part the result of increased instances of dangerous behaviour among motorists. These instances include speeding, driving while distracted, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Some states have stood out from the pack so far this year due to having particularly high rates of fatalities caused by automobile accidents. The National Highway Road Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that there were an expected 250 people killed in traffic accidents in Oregon during the first half of 2022, making it the 23rd state with the fewest number of fatalities.

Taking into account the total number of miles driven by vehicles, however, Oregon has the 10th highest traffic fatality rate in the country, with 1.45 deaths on the state’s roadways for every 100 million miles driven by vehicles. To put this into perspective, it is estimated that there were 1.27 deaths for every 100 million kilometres driven across the country in the first half of the year.
