According to the authorities, Fabian Hernandez, age 31, made what appears to be an attempt on his own life on August 17.
At 10:30 a.m., a deputy from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was making a normal round in the jail when they saw that an adult in custody named Hernandez had attempted to take his own life. Hernandez was immediately taken to the medical unit.
According to the officials, deputies acted swiftly and began performing lifesaving measures as well as calling for medical assistance.
When they arrived, medical staff from the jail, firefighters from Hillsboro, and paramedics from Metro West Ambulance took over life-saving procedures.
Hernandez was sent to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to the injuries he had incurred on August 17 and passed away there six days later.
On August 10, detectives added accusations of second-degree murder and mistreatment of a corpse to those previously filed against Hernandez, who was already in detention after being charged with ID theft.
Kaylee Birdzell, who was 27 years old at the time of her death, was the victim of the murder charge.
Authorities believe Hernandez murdered Birdzell and then dumped her body in the trash at an apartment complex in Aloha. The body of Birdzell was discovered at a landfill in Benton County after authorities claim Hernandez dumped her body there.
