Apple Watch Series 8 (2022): Everything We Know

Even though the Apple Watch Series 8 hasn’t been released yet, we’ve heard a lot of information regarding Apple’s upcoming wristwatch. This guide compiles all of the information that has been rumored to be available concerning the Apple Watch Series 8 so far. It is important to keep in mind that it is still very early in the product cycle; hence, these features have not yet been confirmed, and Apple’s plans could alter at any time.

Design

A number of reports surfaced before the announcement of the Apple Watch Series 7 suggesting that Apple was working on a redesign featuring flat sides in line with the iPhone 13 and iPad Pro, however, this was not the case.

According to recent rumors, the Apple Watch Series 8 may include a design that is analogous to the current iteration, but with a flat display instead. A recent report by Apple Watch leaker ShrimpApplePro said that “there is a flat front glass display” currently in the works for the Apple Watch, and that there is a “high likelihood” that it will debut on the Apple Watch Series 8.

If this turns out to be the case, it’s possible that the Apple Watch Series 8 will have a design similar to the one that was speculated to be included on the Apple Watch Series 7, but with flat edges instead.

Size Options

Ross Young, an industry analyst for displays, predicts that one Apple Watch Series 8 model would ship with a five percent bigger screen in 2022. The diagonal size of the Apple Watch display is rumored to be 1.99 inches, making it somewhat larger than the 1.901-inch display of the 45mm Apple Watch Series 7.

If Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is to be believed, the “rugged” version of the Apple Watch will be the larger one.

Rugged “Pro” Apple Watch

Apple is currently developing an “extreme sports” version of the Apple Watch that will have a larger screen and a metal case that is better suited to stand up to abuse. This version of the Apple Watch will be released later this year.

The newest Apple Watch will be the company’s largest model to date and is being designed with users like athletes, hikers, and others who put their Apple Watches through more rigorous conditions in mind. The display will have a nearly two-inch diagonal measurement, making it larger than the screen size of the Apple Watch Series 7 (which is already available) and the Apple Watch Series 8 (which is scheduled to be released later this year).

S8 Chip

The S8 semiconductor in the Apple Watch Series 8 will be identical in design to the S7 chip, so don’t expect any significant performance upgrades. Instead, a brand new chipset is being developed for the Apple Watch models of 2023.
