Alex Austin, a redshirt sophomore defensive back, and Jack Colletto, a redshirt senior inside linebacker, each received a pair of accolades on Thursday for their contributions to the Oregon State football team. While Austin is one of 115 student-athletes who have made it onto the first watch list for the Wuerrfel Trophy, Colletto is one of 52 student-athletes who have made it onto the watch list for the Horning Award.
At the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level, the Wuerffel Trophy is presented on an annual basis to honor players who have demonstrated outstanding community service. In honor of Danny Wuerffel, a former and prominent quarterback at the University of Florida who won the Heisman Trophy in 1996, this facility bears his name.

The Alex Austin Overcoming Adversity Scholarship was founded the previous year by Austin, who was born and raised in Long Beach, California. Students in high school or college can apply for the prize, which gives one winner $1,000 and two winners $500, if they write an essay with a maximum of 500 words describing a barrier or struggle they faced and how they overcame it.
The names of the semifinalists competing for the Wuerffel Trophy in 2022 will be revealed on November 1, and the names of the finals will be revealed on November 22. On December 8th, it will be revealed who the honor’s recipient will be.
The Hornung Award is presented each year to the college player who has demonstrated the greatest level of versatility. Colletto is now one of the 52 players who are being considered for the honor.
On Tuesday, the native of Camas, Washington was honored by being selected to the preseason All-Pac-12 Second Team. A year ago, he was a member of the Beavers football team and participated in all 12 games. In those games, he carried the ball 31 times, gaining 144 yards and scoring eight touchdowns. In addition, he hauled in one pass for a score, which he ran in from one yard out, and he made eight tackles and had one interception. A year ago, he was selected to the second team of all-conference performers.
In March of 2023, the person who won the Paul Hornung Award that was presented by Texas Roadhouse in 2022 will be honored at a banquet that will take place in Louisville, Kentucky.
