Linebacker Adrian Jackson Leaving Oregon Football Program (Latest News)

According to a source who has been contacted by Ducks Digest, linebacker Adrian Jackson is quitting the Oregon football team. Jackson was not listed on the roster that Oregon released on Tuesday morning, which was updated in advance of the start of fall camp the following week.

Jackson may be entering the transfer portal or he may no longer be playing football, it is unclear at this time.

During spring practice, Adrian Jackson began to switch to inside linebacker. Jackson was ready to begin his junior year of redshirting and his fifth overall season with the Ducks. Jackson, an outside linebacker who graduated from Mullen High School in Denver, Colorado, was the top-ranked recruit in Colorado for the 2018 class and a four-star prospect.

Jackson was one of the top prospects in Oregon’s class and enrolled early, even in the top-15 recruiting class of 2018 that included future NFL stars Penei Sewell and Jevon Holland.

Jackson had begun to switch from outside linebacker to inside linebacker before he left the team. The outside linebacker has been a busy position for him the entire time at Oregon. Fall camp in 2021 will feature Adrian Jackson and Kayvon Thibodeaux.

The fact that top outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux’s injury left a void in the Ducks’ outside linebacker group contributed to Jackson’s best season last year. Last season, Jackson made a career-high 16 tackles, four of which came in the 52-29 victory over Colorado.

Along with veterans D.J. Johnson and Mase Funa, Oregon’s outside linebackers this season have rookies Anthony Jones and Emar’rion Winston.

Therefore, it seems sensible that Jackson was planning to switch to inside linebacker. Jackson’s departure, however, would indicate that Oregon’s inside linebacker group is just as talented.

In 2021, Keith Brown and Justin Flowe.

Watch out for Jackson LaDuke and Keith Brown as well; both players missed time in the 2021 season and will be competing for reinstatement. But Justin Flowe is a name that Duck supporters will undoubtedly be keeping an eye out for.

Injury has made it difficult for Flowe, the second-best recruit to ever pledge to Oregon, to find the field. Flowe only participated in the season opener against Fresno State, but with 14 tackles there, he was hard to miss.

The Ducks’ depth at linebacker will undoubtedly suffer as a result of Jackson’s departure. The Ducks still have one of the best groups of inside linebackers in the country, though, if Sewell, Flowe, and the others are all healthy.
