Class Aaa State Legion Tournament: Medford, Hillsboro, Salem Withnell Take First-round Wins (Latest News)

The Medford Mustangs defeated the Beaverton Sockeyes 4-3 in a walk-off victory in the opening round of the Class AAA state championship on Saturday at Bill Gray Legion Stadium at Champion Car Wash Field. Jeremiah Robbins hit with the bases loaded in the seventh inning.

To start the bottom of the seventh inning against Beaverton reliever Alex Elliott, the Mustangs (33-7) had a full set of bases. The Mustangs benefited from a sacrifice bunt mistake.

The Sockeyes’ defense made a crucial play to make the first out of the inning with a forceout at home plate, but they were unable to hold off the Mustangs to send the game into extra innings.

For Medford, who ended with nine hits overall, Cameron Sewell went 3-for-4. Ezra Vice had a 2-for-4 Sockeyes performance (14-12).

Emerald Challengers lose to Salem Withnell, 4โ€“3.

With one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Cris Rogers delivered an RBI walk-off single to give the Dodgers the victory over Eugene.

For Salem Withnell, Brady Stoops ended with two hits (24-21). For the Challengers, Jack Riley, Easton McDonald, and Cooper Mullens each had two hits (39-16).

The Post 6 Barbers had to defeat the Post 58 Crushers with a late comeback after jumping out to an early 5-2 lead.

After scoring four runs in the fifth and another in the sixth, the Crushers (17-21) came back to win 7-5. In the fifth, Sawyer Enderle hit a solo home run to spark the rally. Post 58 took the lead for the first time on an Owen Stalnaker sacrifice fly, and Tanner Manning’s single in the sixth inning increased the margin to two runs.

With five runs on four hits in the sixth inning, the Barbers (31-8-1) made their move. Sean Murphy and Dakota Chun each hit two doubles to help Post 6 regain the lead.

For the Barbers, Chun went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. For the Crushers, Manning and Caleb Boyles each had multiple hits.
