Steeplejack Brewing has opened a third location less than a year after opening its first, just over a month after opening its second. On Friday, July 1, the third location in Hillsboro, Oregon, will open its doors. Deep Space Brewing is sandwiched between ABV Public House and an industrial-retail area close to Highway 26 on the site.
While the full kitchen is being built, the pub, which has 12 taps and two casks of beer, cider, wine, and liquor, will initially serve customers via an indoor food truck. With a menu like the one at Steeplejack’s Pizza and Beer on Southwest Beaverton Hillsdale Highway, you can expect a variety of hand-tossed pies and side dishes like fried Brussels sprouts, creamy polenta, or meatball arancini to accompany your pizza.

Pinball machines will be got to add to the interior in the coming weeks, as well as dog-friendly outdoor seating. A massive 17,000-square-foot pub like the one in Southwest Portland and the initial rehabilitated church follow suit. Steeplejack was able to put in a 30-barrel DME Process Systems brewhouse, two 80-barrel tanks, and a canning line thanks to all of that extra space.

The layout of the brewery’s production facility will appeal to both beer geeks and novices alike. You’ll be smack dab in the middle of the work area as soon as you walk in the door. Intentionally, there are no barriers in the way of consumers and the devices, not even glass. “We want our clients to be a part of the alcoholic fermentation and have it be accessible and interactive,” co-owner Brody Day says. “The brewers and the ingredients they use are visible. We think it’s critical that beer drinkers understand what other their beer comes from.
As with the church pub, those who look closely or navigate their stuff around a brewhouse will notice that the Hillsboro system is unique. An Anna Buxton, the head brewer of the brewery, says she’s looking forward to “creating some rad beers” with the new German-style brewery. For the sake of expanding our brands’ offerings, I can’t wait to watch Kevin Hanny investigate hops and invent new procedures within the context of lager beer.

It is planned that the second brewery will specialize in the manufacture of larger and experimental one-off beers. It will be open from 11 am until 7 pm on Wednesdays and Sundays. Mondays and Tuesdays are the best days to visit Steeplejack if you want to learn more about brewing from the masters themselves.
