Former Hocus Pocus Star Tried Out For Follow-Up Film

Star of Hocus Pocus Larry Bagby has revealed that he attempted to interview for the following, Hocus Pocus 2, but still was unsuccessful. Bagby portrayed the character of Ernie/Ice, a 20th-century bully, in the 1993 film Hocus Pocus. Ernie was joined by fellow bully Jay, played by Tobias Jelinek. Three evil Sanderson sisters are unintentionally resurrected by a teenage boy on Halloween night. Although Hocus Pocus earned poor reviews and flopped at the box office when it was released, it has now become a cult favorite.

Speculation of a new Hocus Pocus film has been rife for nearly a decade. However, the sequel was not formally confirmed until 2020 and is scheduled to launch on Disney+. As of early 2021, it had been confirmed that the three Sanderson sister actors – Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy – will all be repeating their roles.

Doug Jones, who played Billy Butcherson in the original Hocus Pocus, will reprise his role in the sequel. In the meanwhile, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Whitney Peak, Hannah Waddingham, Sam Richardson, and Tony Hale will all be appearing in Hocus Pocus 2. The original Hocus Pocus thugs are noticeably absent from the characters of the sequel.

The actor, who spoke with EW about his audition for the sequel to Hocus Pocus, admits that he tried out. In an effort to get him an audition for a minor role, such as that of Salem Magic Shoppe proprietor, his agency had approached him. But he didn’t get a meeting, therefore he won’t be in the movie at all! Check out the statement he made in the next paragraph:

Unfortunately, I am not a part of it… I never got an audition for that [Salem Magic Shoppe owner], but that would’ve been clever, even me just playing a cop or something.

It’s been confirmed by Jelinek as well that he won’t be returning for Hocus Pocus 2. Despite not appearing in the official sequel, the 25th anniversary special of Hocus Pocus gave him and Bagby the reunion they needed. Bagby also notes that he offered a proposal for either him or Jelinek to have a cameo role in a Hocus Pocus 2 post-credit sequence, but it seems this idea didn’t play out either. However, these are just 2 of the numerous original cast members who will not be returning in the sequel. In addition to the four actors already confirmed for Hocus Pocus 2, none of the other cast members have been announced. The film will be released on September 30.

Hocus Pocus characters Bagby and Jelinek gained a following even though they didn’t play the primary parts. As a result, the news that they would not be returning for the sequel is extremely upsetting to the community. Knowing that they were concerned and made an attempt for their supporters only makes it more frustrating. However, Hocus Pocus 2 takes place 29 years after the end of the first film. As a result, it would be difficult to include all of the characters from the original and explain why they were there. Even still, it’s tough to fathom why the two thugs couldn’t appear in Hocus Pocus 2 even as cameos.
