iOS 16 Brings Back Apple TV Remote

MacRumors contributor Steve Moser recently tweeted that Apple’s ‘TV Remote’ app will be resurrected with iOS 16. As a result, the app for Apple’s virtual Apple TV remote was no longer available in the App Store as of October 2020. For the past few months, the software has been available directly from the iOS and iPadOS “Control Center.”

For the first time, it appears like the dedicated Apple TV Remote app is making a comeback, alongside a new lock screen. This is fantastic news for someone like me who is continually losing his physical Apple TV remote and forgets to use the built-in virtual remote on his iPhone by swiping down from the top. Using the Apple TV control app is second nature to me.

Currently, iOS 16’s first developer beta is available, and a public beta is expected to be released within the next month.

An app for Apple’s iOS remote for its Apple TV products was the first version of the remote. There were no longer any remnants of this software on Apple’s website or in its support documents when Control Center was integrated into iOS and iPadOS in October 2020. In iOS 15, Apple made room in the Control Center for the Apple TV remote, where it has remained ever since. As of iOS 16, however, the ability to run a solo app has returned.

At its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier this month, Apple revealed iOS 16 with an all-new lock screen, expanded sharing tools, communication improvements, and more. A public beta for iOS 16 is likely to be available by the end of the month, and the first developer beta has already been released.

A shortcut to the TV Remote app on your home screen can also make it easier to find and use the app in the meantime. In spite of the fact that iOS 16 isn’t Apple’s most eye-catching software update, it nevertheless contains several tweaks, upgrades, and new capabilities. The public won’t be able to get iOS 16 until the fall of this year.
