Boog, a 900-pound (408 kg) grizzly bear who is the star of the town’s nature show and spends the night in the garage of park ranger Beth, who has raised Boog since he was a cub, lives in the small town of Timberline, Alaska. Things quickly get out of hand when Boog gets sick from eating too many candy bars and the two decide to rob a convenience store.
Fortunately, Elliot manages to get away before Sheriff Gordy, a friend of Beth’s, catches Boog. Despite Shaw’s best efforts, Beth manages to tranquilize both Boog and Elliot just before Shaw fires his own gun. Shaw runs away from Gordy before he can be arrested. Only two days before the open season begins, Beth decides that Boog and Elliot must be relocated to the Timberline National Forest, where they will be safe from the forest’s resident hunters.
