As if by magic, Denis Villeneuve’s breakthrough drama Sicario has already produced two sequels—the most recent of which has yet to be released. Against the backdrop of a rapidly intensifying drug war on the U.S.-Mexico border, the 2015 O.G. picture follows an idealistic FBI agent who is conscripted by a government task team. Day of the Soldado, the sequel to Sicario, continues to chronicle the drug conflict on the border, which has risen in intensity as gangs have begun smuggling terrorists into the United States. Josh Brolin reprises his role as federal agent Matt Graver, reuniting alongside Alejandro (Josh Brolin) to fight the war (Benicio del Toro). Will they all be back together for the third film?
Three Academy Award nominations were received for the first film’s success at the box office and excellent reviews. In general, critics didn’t like the second installment as much, although it wasn’t a total failure. The third and final installment of the so-called “anthology trilogy” is still on track.
Producer Trent Luckinbill told Screen Rant, “We were overjoyed with the response to the first one, and we felt justified in doing a second one because we liked it. “As far as moviegoers go, we are perhaps the biggest admirers there are. We’re back to feeling that way. Obviously, we leave out a teaser even more than the previous time around. Yeah. If only we could go there, we would love to witness Taylor’s vision come to life. The time is right, in my opinion. The second one, in my opinion, exceeded my expectations.”
Both behind and in front of the camera, there has been a lot of conjecture regarding who may return for Sicario 3. Everything we’ve learned thus far is laid bare here.

Sicario 3 Release Date
Black Label Media, the company behind Sicario: Capos, has confirmed that the film will begin production this year. A full product may not be ready until at least 2022, so it’s possible we won’t see it until that time period. The studio may be taking extra precautions with the forthcoming installment in light of the second installment’s mixed reception.

Sicario 3 Plot
He confirmed that there would be a third Sicario film prior to the release of Day of the Soldado. Del Toro’s Alejandro (from Sicario 2) survived a forced shooting by young gang member Miguel at that film’s ending. Finally, Alejandro appears to be recruiting Miguel, which sets up a possible apprentice connection in the following film.
Sicario 3: Who’s Going To Direct This Film?
After Matt (Brolin) defied the commands of his superiors in Sicario 2 with a rare display of emotion, the sequel would have to address the consequences for his career. Sicario: Capos, which translates to “bosses” in English, suggests that Matt and Alejandro will face the most dangerous drug lords they’ve ever seen.
Is it possible that Denis Villeneuve will return to helm Sicario 3? Villeneuve has expressed interest in returning, according to producer Ed McDonnell. McDonnell told Empire that Villeneuve “wishes he had been available” for Sicario 2. “We even contemplated having him return for the third time, should one occur. As he put it, “If I were free, I’d start making this movie tomorrow.” Even before the script started coming together, we knew he’d be in the middle of Blade Runner.”

In the meantime, Stefano Sollima, the director of Sicario 2, made it clear in 2018 that he will not return for a Sicario 3. In an interview with Variety, he said, “Every movie in these series must be a stand-alone that continues in the same environment.” “As much as I’d like to see another chapter of Sicario, I’d like it to be directed by someone else with a distinct aesthetic. There is no need to own more than one film by the same person. Then it would resemble a real-life franchise too closely.”
