Kaori Miyazono

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso’s protagonist is Kaori Miyazono, a female character. The only child of Ryouko and Yoshiyuki Miyazono, she was a brilliant violinist whose free-spiritedness and personality shined through in her performance.

Tsubaki Sawabe was her classmate at Sumiya Junior High School, where she was a third-year student. When she begged Tsubaki to fix her up with Ryota Watari, she first met Kousei Arima. She helped Kousei, after his mother’s death, return to the piano world as their friendship flourished.

Kousei is a brilliant musician, and she is as well. In contrast, unlike the bulk of the performers included in the series, she has a distinct sound. Free-styling frequently allowed her to alter the song’s pace, pitch, and rhythm. Because of this, the song’s melody changes. Despite the judges’ criticism, her free-styling captured the attention of the crowd.

She began playing the piano as a child because she was inspired by Kousei’s talent, but she later switched to the violin so that Kousei could accompany her. Playing the melodica is a way for her to keep practicing her piano talents.

Kousei Arima

Your Lie in April’s primary character is Kousei Arima. As the youngest winner of the Maihou Piano Competition, he is the son of Takahiko and Saki Arima and a student at Sumiya Junior High School.

He’s had perfect pitch since he was a child and could accurately reproduce music he’d only heard once. Because of his mother’s guidance, Kousei was able to reach technical perfection at a young age. As a result of Saki Arima’s death, Kousei was forced to stop playing the piano. He was the youngest person to ever win the Maihou Piano Competition.

Tsubaki Sawabe

The Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso series’ central character is Tsubaki Sawabe. Sumiya Junior High School is her third year.

This is Tsubaki’s favorite pastime, therefore she would often ask her piano-playing friend Kousei Arima out to play with her. His adventurous and extroverted personality was further fostered as she persuaded him to perform risky activities.

She is an accomplished athlete who is an active member of her school’s softball team. Also, her performance has been shown to be affected by her emotional state, with her playing better and more forcefully when she is angry, and worse and less focused when she is sad.

Saki Arima

Character Saki Arima is a supporting character in the Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso manga and anime series. She was Takahiko Arima’s wife and Kousei Arima’s mother. A popular pianist in Japan before her death, Saki’s treatment of Kousei in the past adversely damaged Kousei’s playing style for the next two years.

Despite Saki’s brutal treatment of Kousei Arima, he did so out of misguided affection for the boy. Even though Kousei was certain of her hatred and envisioned her ghost berating and punishing him, he realized that this was all a fantasy and she loved him. After Kousei’s death, she was revealed to be worried about whether he’d get wounded or succeed at work.

Ryota Watari

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso’s Ryta Watari is one of the series’ most prominent characters. He’s a football captain at Sumiya Junior High School, where he’s a student.

During a junior high soccer match, Watari may be seen dribbling past opponents with ease, yet he can also be distracted by his friends or other things that can easily divert his attention. “Chick-magnet” is another nickname for him, earned as a result of his attractiveness. He can also make people laugh, by the way.

Hiroko Seto

Koharu Seto, Kousei Arima’s piano tutor and guardian, and a close friend of Saki Arima’s, Hiroko Seto, is Koharu’s mother. A well-known pianist in Japan, Hiroko also appeared to be caring for Saki before her death.

The fact that Hiroko has performed in a concert as a world-renowned pianist indicates that she has honed her skills. Hiroko’s job as a pianist and music teacher allows her to help pupils overcome their stage fright and anxiety before contests. People like Kousei Arima and Nagi Aiza can look to her for inspiration and encouragement.

Emi Igawa

Emi Igawa is one of Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso’s supporting characters. A pianist, she competes with Kousei Arima and Takeshi Aiza in the same competition. Yuriko Ochiai, a pianist, is one of her teachers.

Takeshi Aiza and Emi are two of the top middle school pianists in the novel. When she was a child, the crowd noticed that she and Takeshi were far superior to the rest of the competitors, excluding Kousei Arima.

She aspires to be the antithesis of Kousei’s ‘boring’ childhood style of music with her emotive and fiery playing style. Audience members and judges alike were awestruck by her performance in her final appearance. According to Kousei, her performance was full of vibrant color and expressiveness.

Nagi Aiza

In the Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso series, Nagi Aiza is a supporting character. She is Takeshi Aiza’s younger sister and a seventh-grader at Kurumi-Gaoka Elementary School. Nagi is a pupil of Ksuke Oka, who teaches piano. Instead of being Hiroko Seto’s student, she becomes Kousei Arima’s first student under her tutelage.

Before becoming Kousei’s disciple, Nagi had already mastered the piano to a high degree. At the Elena International Music Contest, she won first place, and at the Matsuno Music Contest, she took home the big prize. When Seto-san urged her to show off her abilities, she performed Kousei’s Etude Op. 25 No. 5 with ease.

She blames her little hands during her sessions with Kousei for her inability to play at the correct speed or dynamic. After taking lessons with Kousei, her talents have improved dramatically, and she is now able to keep up with him at a school festival performance she gave.
