Vinland Saga Season 2 Plot

Season 1 of “Vinland Saga” ended with an emotional cliffhanger for the characters and viewers alike. King Sweyn was overthrown by a coup led by Askeladd, Thorkell, and Thorfinn, now working for Danish Prince Canute. Canute came to power as a result of Askeladd’s beheading of King Canute while pretending to be insane. After losing control, Thorfinn has swept away to an unknown location before he could do any harm to the newly-crowned King Canute.

Immediately following this event, the manga has a time skip, which is a crucial turning point in the story. Thorfinn is sold into the Scandinavian slave trade many years later. He has lost both the purpose of his life and the will to live it.

Thorfinn, a slave who refuses to even consider revolting against his captors, toils in the mines until he meets Einar, another prisoner. A new, tranquil existence awaits them as they labor together to gain their freedom. Thorfinn’s journey to find his purpose in life is expected to continue in the anime if it follows the same path as the original material.

Thorfinn: Viking warrior turned freehold farmer, Thorfinn is one of Iceland’s most well-known saga heroes. Thorfinn begins the story as a savage, vengeful warrior employed by the man who killed his father. The story traces his development from a young boy to the “real warrior” he aspires to be like his father.

Askeladd: His roots are unknown, but Askeladd is a mercenary captain from Denmark who is driven to succeed for unknown reasons. An anti-hero and surrogate father figure for Thorfinn is Askeladd, who pushes the younger man about through the death of his father and promises vengeance to keep him following him.

Thors: Captain of the Jomsviking mercenary gang turned anonymous Icelandic farmer and family guy, Thors was Thorfinn’s deceased father. A mere ten chapters are dedicated to detailing Thor’s life, while Thorfinn spends most of the first two-story arcs grappling with his death and striving to live up to the standards set forth by his mentor.

Several Japanese characters complain about having to wait in the text.

It seems like we’ll have to wait a long time, says Thorfinn. “That’s why I despise kids,” responds Askeladd. Moreover, Canute says, “It’s about timeโ€ฆ I think.”

“Whatever it is, there are no deep connotations,” the director said while clearly hinting at the upcoming second season of Vinland Saga.
