After Saturday’s defeat to Watford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to resign as Manchester United manager. He announced his resignation on Sunday.
Fabrizio Romano and Duncan Castles of The Times were among the first to report on Saturday that the United board had decided to sack manager Louis van Gaal following a series of five defeats in the club’s last seven Premier League matches.
After nearly three trophy-less years at Old Trafford, Richard Arnold has been tasked with negotiating the Norwegian’s exit, according to Castles.

There is no doubt that something is amiss, goalkeeper David De Gea said after the Watford loss to reporters. “It’s a big mistake. We’re doing a terrible job at what we’re doing. Please accept my apologies to the followers.”
Manchester United’s results have been abysmal, given the quality of their squad, with the issue of Solskajer’s future looming large.
After Saturday’s defeat, Solskajer told reporters, “I feel we can turn things around.” At this point, “I work as hard and as well as I can with the personnel I have, top people, professional players, but at the time we aren’t achieving the goals.”
He was, however, believed to be unable to turn things around by the United board. The debate now shifts to who will succeed him. Reportedly, Cristiano Ronaldo wants Luis Enrique to manage Spain: Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports reported this.

Zinedine Zidane and Darren Fletcher will take over in an interim capacity, according to Castles. The Glazer family has instructed the board of the club to “further intensify attempts” to bring Zidane on board.
Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane won three UEFA Champions League trophies and two La Liga crowns during his two stints in charge of the Spanish club.
Even though Solskjaer is leaving, United has stated that assistant coach Michael Carrick will step in as interim manager while the club looks for a replacement.

Why Hasn’t United Made An Announcement About The Dismissal?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future is still up in the air, but owner Joel Blazer has the final say. As long as the rest of the board is on board with the choice, he will eventually give it his blessing. Even while no manager has been officially confirmed, rumors point to a variety of candidates, including Zinedine Zidane, Brendan Rodgers, and Ronald Koeman.

In order to select the finest potential manager, Manchester United wants to make this process a little longer. Everyone on the board thinks they have a title-winning team, but picking the correct coach is critical if they are to win any trophies. Fabrizio Romano verified Joel Glazer’s decision within a few hours of the initial statement.
